Lacey's Family Party, and friends, too!

The Gavins joined us for Lacey's Family Party. Everyone had special time with Lacey -- here's Kenny whispering in her ear! We used to do this every year to celebrate Lacey's big family. She has been loved and cared for every minute of her life, and we're all here to attest to that! The LeBria's couldn't make it tonight, and will visit another day. Lacey has a big circle of love around her, and we are so grateful for that.

At dinner, Lacey sat at the head of the table, wishing for leftovers, of course.

LACEY, Chuck, Kenny, Jonathan, Marie, Lynn, Amanda, John. When she first came to live with us, I used to chant the names to Lacey at bedtime so he could hear familiar sounds she loved and dream sweet dreams. She would wag her tail happily. Now we'll do it again, to remind Lacey of her big family and wide circle of friends -- Wendy, Brian, Harley, Jagger, Aileen, Amy, Gayle, Andrew, Connie, Lorraine, Roselynn, Elsie, Neil, John, Karen, Nina, Maggie, Annie, Imani.....

Prayer for the animals

Hear our humble prayer,
for our friends, the animals,
especially for those who are suffering;
for any that are lost or deserted
or frightened or hungry.

We entreat for them all
Thy mercy and pity,
and for those who deal with them,
we ask a heart of compassion
and gentle hands and kindly words.

Make us, ourselves,
to be true friends to animals
and so to share
the blessings
of the merciful.

The face of my love

is etched with
images I am awed by
again and again.

She has measured
the waters of my soul
and surely
has found me wanting,

yet look:

she loves me,
she loves me.

Sierra and Lacey were seldom far apart.

We used to link them, and Sierra would keep Lacey from running off to chase things.

Kissing Cousins! Harley and Lacey.

Lacey loved to dig in the snow for warm, juicy moles. Yuck!

Lacey is everywhere!

Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there; I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glints on snow,
I am the sun on ripened grain,
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circling flight.
I am the soft starlight at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there; I did not die.

We celebrate Lacey's life with peanut butter treats!

When Lacey was taking pills every day, I would dip them in peanut-butter, and Sierra and Ollie would get biscuit chunks dipped in peanut-butter. We continue that, in honor of Lacey -- "Time for Lacey's treats! " I say, and the dogs run to the kitchen, tails wagging happily. In my mind's eye, I continue to see three dogs, and I say, "Number 1 (and give a treat), Number 2 (a treat), and to the third who is there in my heart, I send love and a prayer, and wish I had given her lots and lots of treats whenever she wanted because she didn't live a long time, and keeping her weight down was so she would live a long time.
